sometimes, though, my mind is tougher than my body. boo. it has rejected me - yet again. i had many goals set for this summer. RC Cola and Moon Pie Festival 10 Miler, Harpeth River 44 Mile Bike Ride, and the Music City Tri - to be exact. well, about 3 weeks ago, i ramped my running up too quickly and the stress fractures that i got in my feet after the marathon reared their ugly heads again. the tops of my feet ached so badly.
the beautiful visions of crossing finish and enjoying a Moon Pie and a piece of deep fried pizza with jdoss were quickly shattered. i had to come to grips that i needed to take some time off from running and let my feet heal. again.
so - i'm currently on 2 weeks and 4 days of rest (but who is counting?).
i have bored myself to tears on the elliptical machine. how in the world do people do that - only that - every day? ughhhh. i am trying to divert my energy and attention to getting prepared for the Music City Tri minus the running part right now. there is still hope for the Tri, we'll just have to see if my feet play nice between now and then.
but, i actually have signed up for the Harpeth River 44 miler NEXT WEEKEND. whoa. it snuck up on me. i've been logging my time in spin classes and have ridden a few 25 and 30 milers actually on my bike.
goal for the Harpeth River ride? to ride - upright - and enjoy it. it's a "ride," not a "race." right?
well, that was the goal until yesterday. thanks to the lovely social media sight they call facebook, i discovered that LANCE ARMSTRONG will be at the ride. what? stop it. i may or may not be obsessed with this man. i have followed him in all of the Tour de France races for years. am i star struck by keith and nicole walking around in the same shopping mall as me? nope. am i super excited to know that THE taylor swift goes to the same dermatologist as me and my pimply face might run into her one day? could care less.
LANCE ARMSTRONG, on the other hand, on his bike in the same race as me? *sigh*
i am like a kid awaiting christmas. discovering this news has completely derailed my plan and my goal.
new goal: do not crash at the sight of lance armstrong. do not become a bumbling idiot when you ask him for his autograph. (oh, yes. there will be an attempt at an autograph.)
new plan: do i need to re-think my race
I might brush my hair for Lance. Sorry I didn't for you this day, Justin.... |
anyway. i was planning to wear this shirt because it's going to be blazing hot AND because it has pockets on the back. completely functional. you know - for my camera, so i can paparazzi style click photos of LA.
but, it's LANCE ARMSTRONG LIVE STRONG YELLOW.
over the top and too much into it? maybe. nahhhhh!
stop.
who am i kidding?
he will have finished the race before i even make it to the first water stop.....crisis averted.
