monday funday

a little recap of my monday funday......

last night, like most monday nights, i went to tin roof 2 running crew. we had gotten an email last week saying that there would be a charity event taking place at TR2 hosted by rob bironas, kicker for the titans. cool. he was hosting some sort of singer/songwriter evening alongside our regular running event.
before the event, we had to run. boo. haha
i learned something new last night:
distance runners not only run further distances than me, they also run faster.
i thought - heck, i can run with the big dogs. i'm a "distance" runner. well, not like those people. as i cruised with a few girls that were running at a nice pace, they turned around to complete the 4 mile route. shoot. i knew that there was a group of runners that were planning to run between 5-6 and they had continued on ahead of me. i psyched myself out and was like - i've totally got this. accept, i was all alone. did i miss a turn that everyone else running the longer distance was running? at this point, rain started to come down, there was no one running what seemed like in front of or behind me... it was just me and the lonely street lights.
not only am i running alone, after the intersection where most turned around there was a huge hill. i was alone and climbing. neat. i could just turn around now.... or, i could walk. no, i kept trudging along and finally, i saw another intersection in the far distance and decided that i would go to that light and turn around. right before it got to light - i saw the danged longer distance people across the road on the sidewalk heading back. ahhh!
i didn't want to be completely alone the whole way back so i ran across the 5 lanes and median to fall in behind them. or at least, that was my brilliant plan. by the time i got my short little slow self across the street - they had vanished from my sight. i think they had wings or something. i ran faster and faster trying to channel robert pattinson and finally got where i could see one guy running alone a bit behind the pack ahead.

are you kidding me? i realized at that point that i have come a long way in my little running adventures, but i still can't hang with those folks. so, yea. basically - i finished the 5.5 miles in probably quicker than i'd run 5.5 miles before but i was the. last. person. back. awesome.
lesson learned. if you can't run with the big dogs, you'll just run alone.

moving on.

when i finally made it back to the roof, people had begun to gather for the charity event. stinky runners, fancy titans and music people alike were sprinkled throughout. so, jess and i didn't feel too strange about being in running gear for this event where some girls were in heels and had big hair and more make up on than i've worn in a month. at least early in the evening, we semi-blended in.

jess and i chatted, had a good time, {ate some cheese dip}, met a few new runner friends, and enjoyed the music. then, they announced that JAMEY JOHNSON would be playing last. are you kidding me?!? i go out for my normal monday evening run at my favorite watering hole and get to see jamey johnson!!!

one more, of the many, reasons that i love nashville. you never know who might pop in somewhere to play a few tunes.

jess says, "who is jamey johnson?" to which, i ignored her and went to stand closer to get a better view.

by the time jamey started to play and i was making my way up to the front to take this picture.....

i realized that jess and i were 2 of the 3 people still there in running clothes. i'm sure the fancy song and football people were like - who are these stinky gals and why are they wearing gym clothes to this event?

oh well. what a night. i was the last person to finish running. jess and i were the last people to leave the roof in running gear. and, i got to see jamey johnson. done and done. another successful monday funday.
