Ding Dong Daddy Days

no, i didn't stutter.

this weekend is DING DONG DADDY DAYS OF DUMAS! {quit laughing}

no, we're not the home of the ding dong factory - fortunately for all who live there. ha!
what the heck is that, you ask? it's the festival held in my little hometown of
Dumas, AR.

the festival takes its name from the song “I’m a Ding Dong Daddy from Dumas,” a popular tune from the 1930s. Click on the link - you have gotta hear this!

DDDD takes place every year during the last weekend of july - a.k.a., the hottest weekend of the year. however, i'm hoping that this year is not nearly as blazing, as we have had an unseasonably mild summer. thank, goodness!

nevertheless, the party will go on. bring it on, heat.

dumas is a little one horse town with a handful of red lights, a sonic, the "tireman," and the ding dong daddy days festival.

check this out - the "tireman" like a beacon pointing the way home.

what does the festival include?
glad you asked.
DDDD includes, but is not limited to:
a pageant - don't you wish you could be miss ding dong days???
the crowning of ding dong daddy and ding dong mama - the most outstanding man and woman in civic involvement for the year
a play - this year the community arts center put on a patsy cline play
a parade - where the high school band, a few trikes, a few bikes and the Shriners!
the ding dong daddy days 5k - the reason for my visit
a pancake breakfast - another delicious reason for my return to DDDD
a fun-filled day in the park - complete with country music, some high school reunions, a baggo contest, and arm wrestling contest, a dunkin' booth, a watermelon spitting contest, some cloggers, some antique cars, and maybe a funnel cake or two.
oh, yes. a true southern festival it is!

here.

don't you want to join? if so, truck on down to the middle of nowhere southeast arkansas and you'll be greeted with a big ding dong daddy grin.

i'm participating in the the ding dong daddy days 5k. my dad said, "are you running from the police all the way down here??" no, silly pops - i'm running with the goal of crossing the finish line without passing out due to the lack of humidity training here in nashville. to be honest, my goal is to beat or meet my person best time. but, i'm not telling what it is in case i don't! regardless of the time in which i finish, i'm excited to hit the pavement in my good ole hometown!

though i'm not accustomed to running in the wretched heat and humidity that dumas has, it's allllll flat so that'll help! whoop! also, i'll be wearing my new, affordable tank. i will let you know how that works out!

i am looking forward to running into a few old friends from home that are coming back for the race as well. i walked this 5k when i was in the 10th grade because i had to with the cheerleading squad. never in a million years would i have dreamed that i would be voluntarily going back to run the thing. never say never!

wish me luck & wherever you are this weekend, have a DING DONG DADDY good time!
