whatta wicked weekend

last weekend ranks up there among one of the best weekends i have had in a long time. do you ever have that good family time that just fills you up? you leave refreshed and content. i cannot think of two people that i would rather be with when i'm worn down and feeling mundane - a weekend with my mother and sister are always the best medicine.
as i posted here, justin worked nearly 40 hours overtime last week, managed to pull out a B on a calculus test (yay, J!), and was just absolutely spent. i left him on friday afternoon with strict orders to rest - all weekend. for the most part, he did. he called me at about 11pm on saturday night and said, "i'm hungry. will you call the pizza delivery and have them bring me a pizza?" wow. he's spoiled. he proceeded to also tell me that if i left town again, i must leave him meals that he can just pop in the microwave. bless him.

moving on...

meg and i packed up the car on friday afternoon and headed into the sun to memphis, with a newly burned micheal jackson CD in tow. RIP, MJ. we might as well have moonwalked all the way to memphis. we were greeted by my mom, future step-dad, and future step-bro with a delicious steak dinner and excellent "family" time.
meet the future step-sibling, brad. he's great, though he's a rebel. he's a senior civil engineering student at ole miss. and as i said, though he's a rebel, we like him anyway.

have i mentioned how stinkin' hot it has gotten outside over the past few weeks? the heat index on saturday in memphis was 105 degrees. what?! that's hot, folks. M, M and i faced the heat head on for a few hours at the pool. it's so hot out that the pool was hot. sheesh. we did a little shopping before heading home to get ready for dinner at the Half Shell and to see Wicked!

i love these women with my whole heart.

MMm, dinner at Half Shell. i'm still full.

Wicked was wicked awesome. if you have the chance to see the play and it comes to a theater near you - go! i love the theater and i love the wizard of oz - what a great combo wicked turned out to be. mom and i are loud laughers. you know, those people who laugh out loud and don't hold back - even in the theater. she and i laughed so hard we were crying watching the "Popular" scene. the overall production was fantastic - i would see it again!

this was my first trip to the orpheum. it was a beautiful theater. good job, memphis.

before the show.

my failed attempt at getting a group shot in our seats. sorry, M & M.

and, the weekend did not stop there! several of mom's "teacher friends," as she so eloquently refers to them, threw her a little wedding shower on sunday afternoon at her favorite little eatery, huey's. it was a real treat for mom, and for meg and i, to meet mom's new memphis friends. she has really enjoyed getting to know these ladies and i'm so very thankful that they are taking care of her for us :) they were all wonderful ladies and were so sweet to acknowledge her upcoming wedding and shower her with goodies - and a veil.

isn't she cute?

yay for presents!

this cake was adorable, and delicious! the shells and dolphin were edible. ahhhh!

ed forgot about the shower and came up to grab a bite to eat. busted.

the group. thanks, ladies!
