When I tell people that JWood is in AK for the summer, the question I most often get is:
"Is it light all day there in the summer?"
Well, kinda sorta....yes, no, not really.
Yesterday was the first day of Summer, technically known as the Summer Solstice.
In AK, the Summer and Winter Solstices are a big deal.
June 21st is the longest day of the year and December 22nd is the shortest day of the year.
In between those days, they gain and/or lose around 5 minutes a day.
Crazy!
Happy Summer Solstice!
This was midnight in Anchorage, AK on June 21, 2011.
