new year.

it's a new year. i'm still in disbelief that this year is my 10 year high school reunion, i am 28 (with no kids gasp!), i am married, i have a new job, and ..... a new zodiac sign? really? i had a minor identity crisis last week after some cook in Minnesota decided that this poster child Sagittarius was now some new sign that they just made up. i mean - what's an ophiuchus anyways??
no ma'am. forever and ever a sag, amen. whew.
ok - now that i got that out there in the open...
let's move on and catch up on the life and times at the woodhood.

i have high hopes for 2011 and it better not let me down. jwood has began his first of five semesters left towards graduation at tennessee tech university in cookeville. oh yea, back to school he goes. we are seeing the light at the end of this tunnel and so thankful for his ability to work in alaska in the summers and go to school full time during the year. he's in full swing with classes that i cannot even phathom. what happens in a statics class? is that where they learn how to get static out of clothes in the winter? sweet! no? oh.......
i couldn't be more proud of him. :)

i have began my brand spankin' new job this week and i love it. i swear, my worst day at the new job will probably beat my best at the old gig. i will never complain again. i'm getting nestled back into the civil engineering world and getting to participate in marketing planning meetings to boot. my first day included a lunch outing to tin roof 2 - my favorite. i think i'm going to live and ahhh - i like it. i am so thankful for God's answered prayers and blessing me with this great opportunity.

as if school and a new job weren't enough - we decided to tackle a "do it yourself" home project because a) we're cheap and b) we're a glutton for punishment. we've been wanting to put down "hardwood floors" for a while now. our carpet was ick from tracking in dirt, our monstrous fires, and lily accidents. grrr. so, we took advantage of the long MLK weekend to spend some time with miss kelly, who was in from austin, and to put down new flooring.

disclaimer: this ain't easy. when someone says, "oh yea, it's easy - just pop it together." run for the hills. it's faaaar more involved than what we'd originally thought. whew. there were a few times that jwood may or may not have hit his hand with a hammer, there may or may not have been a time when i almost lost my lunch because door facings were being ripped off the wall and tossed about in frustration. new flooring turned into new rugs, painting baseboards, painting door facings, etc. etc. etc., but i'm so proud of it!
it turned out great! what a labor of love :)
In the beginning.....

The finished product!

Thank goodness for a stress relief with Miss Kels :)
have i mentioned that it's been basically blizzard status
this winter in middle tennessee and at the wood hood?
oh yea - global warming my rump.

happy winter from the wood hood :)
