1 year down...

Yesterday, Justin and I celebrated our 1 Year Anniversary! And, boy do we have a story for the books!

I posted last Friday that he and I were heading to try somewhere new for our little anniversary weekend get-a-way. We opted to stick closer to home to save some money and try out Fall Creek Falls State Park and stay at a nearby Bed & Breakfast. If you follow our blog at all - you know that we're suckers for the Smoky Mountains and get over there every chance we get. Well, sometimes change isn't always a good thing. We really had high hopes for our new little adventure and hoped we'd fall in love with the park and the B&B. Now, we're campers - for crying out loud - so we generally don't need a lot of amenities to make us happy... unless we've paid a chunk of change for the place. Let me tell you - they used the term B&B loosely.... Justin and I pulled up to this old house in the middle. of. nowhere. We drove down a short gravel road to the B&B where - apparently - we were the only visitors. The owners were super nice, they showed us to our "cabin" and pointed us in the direction of "town" - about 20 minutes away. As we sat in the car, I said "good thing we like each other - there's going to be a lot of togetherness." Don't get me wrong - we have a good time, no matter where we are! This was no exception. Regardless - we made our way into the cabin to be greeted with decor circa 1992 on the farm - bunnies, big red artificial flower arrangements, a queen size quilted bed, lots of doilies, and a 15" TV with 2 snowy channels - but, they had a hot tub!

After getting settled in, we needed a few things from the grocery store and ventured into "town." Wow. We're from a small town but we don't have anything Pikeville, TN. There was a Dollar General, a Fred's, and Pig-N-Catch. As we were leaving with an arm full of snacks and magazines, I asked the teen check out girl where we should eat dinner in Pikeville. She quickly and eagerly - in her finest southern middle Tennessee accent - said, "Oh my gawd, you haaave to go to the Piiiig-N-Caaaatch." Done and done. We managed to find the Pig-N-Catch and enjoy some tasty BBQ and fried catfish. Anniversary Adventure underway...
After finding our way back to the cabin, we popped open the bubbly and hopped in the hot tub! It was really nice. Saturday - we woke up to our breakfast delivered in a picnic basket and a rainy, foggy, dreary day. Our breakfast was very tasty - I will give them credit for that. We geared up in our hiking get up, with high hopes of being able to hike a while. But, the fog got worse and it sprinkled on and off all day. We do love to hike but we were not chancing getting lost up there on a trail with rumors of snow later that afternoon. We opted to drive around the park, go visit the Inn & Cabins on the grounds - just get a general feel of the area. I was so disappointed. The park seemed really run down - the Inn looked abandoned but was still housing guests, and our B&B cabin was better than those. What a bummer - we really hoped that we'd love this park and could camp some this summer. I think it would be a great park to go day hiking - the Fall Creek Falls look amazing in all of the literature we have so maybe we'll give it a-go some other time.

One of the most fun aspects of our trip was making our first anniversary cake! MMm We made an angel food cake topped with Cool Whip and strawberries! :) (a healthy treat too)

All in all, we came away from our little anniversary get-a-way with a great story and funny memories. Although we were a little disappointed with the location, we enjoyed hanging out with each other and getting away from the hustle and bustle of our daily lives here in Nashville.

Enjoy the pics of our trip!

Justin - show me your "I'm happy we're getting away from homework face" ... this is what I got.
We were first greeted by the friendliest cat I have ever seen - he wanted to stay inside with us.
They did have a great back porch -
Justin checked out the piano - piano in the cabin? Right.
The Living Room - oh yea!

BUNNIES!

Gotta love the quilt and doilies.

Umm, where the he#$ are we? Trying to locate ourselves on the GPS on the phone...

Pig-N-Catch! It was delicious!

Our picnic breakfast & our only saving grace - the hot tub.

The view from the back porch.

Our 1 Year Cake

What an adventure!

I got these beautiful flowers hand delivered by my husband yesterday - they're my favorites :)
